Christopher Beer Architect Limited is an architectural design studio which delivers carefully-crafted and thoughtfully-designed buildings. Located in Cambridge, New Zealand, we aim to create considered, physically- and mentally-engaging architecture through a critical and thorough design process.
Our studio is directed by Christopher Beer, a registered architect who has worked previously in the studios of a number of well-regarded, award-winning practices; most notably with Fearon Hay Architects, Auckland and as an Associate at William Tozer Associates, London. Christopher is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects and is a Registered Architect. He obtained a bachelor's degree in architecture in 2007 and a diploma in architectural technology in 2002.
As a design practice, we're interested in projects which intrigue and delight. Creating architecture can be a difficult and daunting task, and we aim to guide our clients deftly and carefully through the process using our knowledge of design and our experience in building. We delight in sharing our design skills with our clients to create objects and buildings which are delightful and spaces which are both calming and exciting. Our goal is that each project reflect our client's aspirations and enhance their experience of life and living.
We believe successful spaces are those which evoke an emotional and physical response, whether it be to calm or excite, or to encourage social interaction or allow quiet contemplation. We aim to create residential architecture which enhances family living, using space, form, material, texture and proportion to create a place which reflects our clients' way of living and their aspirations.
A comfortable and beautiful building is difficult to attain, especially when combined with site and budgetary constraints. Knowledge and skill is required to balance these external influences with the aesthetic requirements of space, form, material, texture and proportion. We have experience in the design, procurement and contract management of residential, commercial and hospitality projects draw on this experience with each new project we develop. We recognise the value of risk and cost management and incorporate strategies for these into the design, pricing and construction processes of all our projects, ensuring that projects are carefully and constantly assessed for value, affordability and suitability.
As the only architecture practice in Cambridge led by a Registered Architect, we specialise in providing full architectural design services for residential and small-scale commercial projects locally and throughout the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Auckland regions. We assist clients in all aspects of the building design and construction process, from initial site analysis, through design, consenting, pricing and procurement, construction and completion stages. We see our role as to guide our clients smoothly through this process, creating buildings that both fulfil their needs and elevate their spirit.
Critical to the success of our projects, initial and ongoing consultation and dialogue with our clients ensures we understand their aspirations and develop their project to meet their specific needs. Working closely with our clients allows us to create architecturally-formed objects and spaces which provide an enriching experience of life and living; establishing mutual interests and sensibilities early in the design process ensures our design suits our clients perfectly.
We believe the quality and success of a building depends upon the cohesiveness of its design. Working closely with our clients, we design and specify the fixtures, fittings and cabinetry for each of our projects, allowing us to guide and control the composition of the work and ensuring each element adds to the overall architectural experience of the building and to the value of the completed project.
We work on projects of all scales and budgets, in all parts of New Zealand. We’re especially interested in working with clients who have projects that are unique, difficult, intriguing…or just special. We enjoy discussing architecture and encourage anyone contemplating a building project to get in touch.
